What’s new in version 1.3:

  • Added beta support for Rogers, Fido, TELUS, and "Beat’s me!" in Canada.
  • You can now send messages to T-Mobile users in Germany with 11-digit numbers (don’t enter the country code or leading 0).
  • Split "Cingular / AT&T" into two different carrier options. Make sure you select the correct one!
  • Split "Alltel" into two different carrier options for Alltel and Alltel PCS. Make sure you select the correct one!
  • Displays "Sending message, please wait…" to provide better feedback while the message is being sent.
  • Website for sending text messages also improved:

The SMS widget allows you to send text messages to mobile phones for free. You don’t even need to have a phone at all! The widget works with most major carriers in the USA, as well as T-Mobile in Germany and several carriers in Canada.

The SMS widget integrates with the Mac OS X Address Book, so you can quickly select friends to contact. After you send a message, the widget remembers your friend’s carrier so that you don’t need to enter it in the future! You can include your mobile number or email as the reply address of your messages. This lets recipients reply to your SMS messages.

A free website for sending text messages is also available at:
https://keakaj.com/sms/sms.cgi

The widget currently supports AT&T, Cingular, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, Nextel, Virgin Mobile, Alltel, and Qwest in the USA, as well as T-Mobile in Germany. I am also beta testing Rogers, Fido, TELUS, and “Beats me” in Canada.
